With the help of the Harris Center for Conservation Education, the Silver Lake Land Trust worked to have small, contiguous lots on the east side of Eastside Road remain permanently undeveloped by having mutual deed covenants put in place, which will be enforceable by abutters and by the Silver Lake Land Trust.
These lots are very small and would be too costly and cumbersome to manage to be protected with conservation easements, but collectively they would be large enough to support dwellings. The deed covenants are mutual deed restrictions that allow enforcement of the restrictions by all signees. In this case, the Silver Lake Land Trust can act as an enforcement agent to prevent restricted development. Currently eight of the nine parcels are under deed covenant, and we hope to add the last small parcel in the future.
